FORMER MANCHESTER UNITED striker Will Keane has said he is ready to declare for Ireland as he declared his intentions to break into Martin O’Neill’s squad ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
The 24-year-old striker has represented England at every underage level up until U21s but qualifies to represent Ireland through his Dublin-born father.
In an interview with The Times yesterday, Keane spoke of his desire to play for the Boys in Green as he nears a return to action with Hull City after a lengthy injury lay-off.

“They have some good strikers, but I was on their radar before the injury. I am an outside bet but if I can get back scoring goals I would like to think I have a chance,” he said.
“It is every player’s dream to play in the World Cup. Ireland are doing well in their group so they might make it.”
Keane started his career at Old Trafford after joining the club’s academy as a teenager and worked his way up the ranks before making two senior appearances for Man United.
During his nine years at the club, Keane had loan spells with Wigan, QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Preston before leaving for Hull in August 2016 on a three-year deal.
The striker, who is the twin brother of England international Michael Keane, has been sidelined for the last 10 months after suffering knee ligament damage during Hull’s Premier League clash with Southampton in November.
When asked about Keane at yesterday’s press conference in Abbotstown, Ireland manager Martin O’Neill said ‘he’d definitely have a look’ when he’s fit.
