Will Genia is returning to Super Rugby after two years with Stade Francais

The Australia scrum-half has joined the Melbourne Rebels.

WALLABIES VICE-CAPTAIN Will Genia will return to play his club rugby in Australia with Super Rugby’s Melbourne Rebels, the Australian Rugby Union announced today.

The 78-Test halfback had been playing for the Wallabies while based overseas with Stade Francais in Paris since 2015.

Genia previously played nine Super Rugby seasons with the Queensland Reds, including winning a title with the club in 2011, but chose to head south to the Rebels upon his return to Australia.

The veteran said the club, which survived being axed after the ARU last week decided to cull the Western Force, had a good young team which he could help develop.

“First and foremost I’m there to contribute to the desired success of the club on the field through my performance and ability as a player,” Genia said.

“After that, it’ll be a great chance to bring some of the things I’ve learned over the years to the club and help drive the club forward.”

Genia, who will appear for the Wallabies against New Zealand in this weekend’s Bledisloe Cup opener in Sydney, will join his Rebels teammates early next year.
