We're changing from TheScore.ie to The42... here's why

We’ve big plans for 2015.

WE’RE CHANGING. From next month TheScore.ie will be The42.

As well as noticing a new look and feel to your app, there’ll be fresh editorial content, even more of the stuff you love already, a nice redesign and big improvements to how things work.

We’re also planning to add significantly to our award-winning team of journalists over the course of 2015.

So why change? Well, we want to keep improving and growing.

Four and a bit years ago we set out to talk about sport in a new way with Irish fans. Something the traditional media had not done.

The Irish sports fan of today wants news as it happens rather than the following morning — and you want it on your smartphone. You want to be able to comment, share and engage with stories. You want games broken down and discussed in long-form by expert writers who are savvy with multi-media reporting.

You’re interested in and knowledgeable about Gaelic games, soccer and rugby but also know your stuff when it comes to the NFL, MMA and more.

The new name reflects that better. For us the opening up of Croke Park to football and rugby — through the relaxation of Rule 42 — was the year zero for this new type of Irish sports fan. This is a nod to that and everything that comes after it.

Also, we have ambitious plans for the future. A lot of our readers live in Sydney, Toronto, London and elsewhere. But The Score name is one that’s present in lots of places. This change gives us a strong, uniquely Irish personality and allows us to grow internationally.

Most importantly though, the content and community on the site is what defines us. We’ll continue to give our engaged, informed readers what they want, when they want it; that’s what we’re passionate about.

You’ve probably noticed various The42 references on your app recently; the full switch-over will start in January. We have lots planned but what would you like to see on the new site? Let us know in the comment section below. As always, we’re listening.
