IRELAND GOALKEEPER KEIREN Westwood was in outstanding form for Sheffield Wednesday tonight as the Owls edged one step closer to a Premier League return.

Coming into tonight’s second leg at Brighton with a 2-0 lead from the first leg, the away side were under pressure for lengthy periods but Westwood, and his defensive team-mates, repeatedly kept the Seagulls at bay.

After a frantic start, which saw the home side camped in Wednesday territory for the first 15 minutes, Chris Hughton’s side eventually broke the deadlock on 19 minutes through Lewis Dunk after an excellent free-kick from the outstanding Anthony Knockaert.

The Owls responded excellently however, scoring through Ross Wallace just nine minutes later with what was their first meaningful attacking venture.

The first-half was played at breakneck speed and the Owls were happy to head into the break with their two-goal advantage still intact.

After weathering the storm in the opening 45 minutes, Sheffield Wednesday looked more assured in the second period against a tiring Seagulls outift to see out a 1-1 result on the night and a 3-1 aggregate victory.

They will likely play Hull City in the play-off final as the Tigers lead Derby County 3-0 ahead of their second-leg clash tomorrow night.

Dubliner Richie Towell was an unused substitute for Brighton while Aiden McGeady failed to make Wednesday’s match-day squad.
