REPUBLIC OF IRELAND international Wes Hoolahan has tonight been named in the Football League Team of the Decade alongside players such as Gareth Bale and Rickie Lambert.
The all-star line-up, announced to celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Football League Awards, was selected after all 72 clubs were asked to put forward their best players from the last ten years.
Hoolahan joined Blackpool in 2006 before moving to Carrow Road two years later and has been an ever present in the Norwich side since. A couple of seasons in the Premier League aside, Hoolahan has largely plied his trade in the Football League and has scored four goals this season.
There was disappointment for Daryl Murphy, however, as he missed out on the Championship Player of the Year award despite scoring 24 goals this term.
Middlesbrough’s Patrick Bamford, who played for the Boys in Green at U18 level, took home the silverware after spearheading his side’s promotion push. Boro currently sit third with two games remaining.
In League One, Preston North End midfielder Joe Garner was voted as this year’s standout performer. Last month, it emerged that the FAI were looking into the eligibility of the 27-year-old.
