Sutton United’s reserve goalkeeper Wayne Shaw regularly appeared in interviews ahead of the non-league side’s clash with the Premier League giants, and further pencilled his name into folklore with his performance during the 2-0 defeat to the Gunners.
Incidentally, Shaw and BBC pundit Alan Shearer were once team-mates in the Southampton youth team.
“He did (play in the same team as me), absolutely. When we were 14 or 15,” said the Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer before Sutton took on Arsenal in the FA Cup.
“I actually followed my dreams to the Premier League, and he followed his to the burger van, I think.”
