3 newcomers as Waterford make 10 changes for game against Galway

Derek McGrath has given several squad players the chance to impress.

WITH A LEAGUE quarter-final already assured, Waterford have opted to give squad players the chance to impress in Sunday’s Division 1A tie against Galway.

Manager Derek McGrath has made ten changes from last Sunday’s loss to Dublin with only Austin Gleeson, Tadhg De Búrca, Kevin Moran, Tom Devine and Shane Bennett retained from that game.

There are starting league debuts for Conor Gleeson, Shane Roche and Colm Roche. Ian O’Regan gets the nod in goal while Conor Gleeson – who featured for the Waterford U21 footballers this week – Shane McNulty, Shane Roche and Gavin O’Brien come into the defence.

There’s a new midfield partnership in Shane O’Sullivan and Maurice Shanahan. In attack Brian O’Halloran, Colm Roche and Tommy Ryan are handed starting spots.

A qualifying statement would have helped. Of course a woman interested or involved in football will, give or take, be as tactically astute as a man with the same level of interest or involvement. In my experience this is not the case with the vast majority of women but perhaps this is changing. As ever in public discourse everything is black or white, right or wrong, sexist or inclusive… and in this case both the offender and offended are at fault.
