Waterford United could be set for a much-needed cash injection

The First Division club has endured a difficult number of months with their financial struggles coming to the fore back in April

WATERFORD UNITED HAVE confirmed that negotiations are taking place with an “overseas individual” regarding a “takeover” of the club.

The League of Ireland First Division club posted a brief statement on Twitter confirming the news.

“Waterford United Football Club can confirm that negotiations are taking place with a overseas [sic] indivual regarding a takeover of the club,” the statement read.

“As negotiations are ongoing the club will be making no further comment at this point.”

Waterford’s financial troubles were well documented this season and they issued an appeal for help in April.

An online donation website was established looking for “€80,000 to €90,000″ to ensure that the club would ”be able to complete the season”.

The Regional Sports Centre-based club finished fifth in the First Division this season, after picking up 33 points from 28 games.
