Victor Valdes has officially left Man United on loan

The Spanish goalkeeper struggled to gain first-team football at Old Trafford.

VICTOR VALDES’ UNSUCCESSFUL time at Manchester United effectively came to an end on Sunday when it was confirmed the goalkeeper was joining Standard Liege on loan.

The 34-year-old will remain with the Belgian club until the end of the season and then become a free agent.

A statement on United’s website said: “Manchester United and Standard Liege have reached agreement for the temporary transfer of goalkeeper Victor Valdes, effective until the end of the current season.”

Valdes, once a mainstay at Barcelona, managed just two appearances since joining United 12 months ago and has reportedly fallen out with Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal.

On Thursday, Valdes sent a farewell message to United’s fans, saying: “Thank you all for your support during these months of hard work for me. I will never forget! See you soon!”

Valdes won the Champions League three times with Barcelona and was in the Spain squad that won the World Cup and European Championship.
