Arsenal & Manchester United target Benzema 'would only leave Madrid if he was told to'

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the last week, while the Gunners have identified the former Lyon striker as a potential summer signing.

KARIM BENZEMA’S AGENT has moved to play down speculation that his client could move to either Arsenal or Manchester United, insisting he would only leave if Real Madrid told him to.

It’s understood that the Gunners believe that Benzema would be interested in a move to north London, should Madrid decide to sell, though any potential deal would likely cost around £35 million.

Reports have suggested that Benzema’s representative, Karim Djaziri, met with Ed Woodward earlier this week to discuss a move to United, but he has now rejected those rumours and maintains that the Frenchman wants to finish his career at the Bernabeu.

“I haven’t met with any club in London. Not with United and not with anyone else. We haven’t held talks with anyone other than Real Madrid,” he is quoted as saying by Marca.

“What is Karim going to do in Manchester? He’s happy in Madrid. He doesn’t want to leave. Benzema would only leave if Real Madrid told him he was surplus to requirements, because he isn’t going to leave of his own accord.

“Karim wants to see out his contract. He wants to retire at Real Madrid.”
