With Ulster co-captains Andrew Trimble and Rob Herring absent from the starting XV, Ireland skipper Best leads the northern province for a crucial clash with a strong Clermont outfit.

The only other changes to Ulster’s starting side see Robbie Diack and Louis Ludik named to start, with Diack coming into the second row in place of the missing Franco van der Merwe. Ludik takes Craig Gilroy’s place on the left wing.

Meanwhile, Clermont have named a host of France internationals including the in-form Wesley Fofana, Morgan Parra, Remi Lamerat and captain Damien Chouly. Fiji number eight Peceli Yato starts, while Nick Abendanon has been named on the wing.
