Robert Whittaker beats Derek Brunson by TKO to pick up his sixth straight win

Whittaker called for a middleweight title shot after the win, but he may have to wait a little longer.

ROBERT WHITTAKER finished Derek Bunson four minutes into the first round of UFC Fight Night 101′s main event in Melbourne, Australia.

Brunson had been winning the opening round until a brutal finishing sequence from Whittaker handed the 25-year-old a TKO victory.

The New Zealander caught Brunson with a timely left punch, before connecting with a head kick and ending the fight on the ground. It was Whittaker’s sixth win in a row in the 185-pound division and his record now stands at an impressive 17-4.

Whittaker called for a title shot after the fight, but with Yoel Romero and Ronaldo Souza ahead of him in the pecking order, he may have to bide his time.

Elsewhere, hometown boy Jake Matthews lost out to Andrew Holbrook in the co-main event via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

Australian native Tyson Pedro achieved the first finish of the night, submitting Khalil Rountree by a rear-naked choke less than a minute into the first round.

Alexander Volkanovski defeated Yusuke Kasuya with a second-round TKO, while Danielle Taylor enjoyed a split decision win over Seo Hee Ham. Finally, Omari Akhmedov was a unanimous victor over Kyle Noke.
