Ireland granted another Europa League place -- and that's good news for UCD

Come on down, Students.

SSE AIRTRICITY LEAGUE First Division side UCD will play in the Europa League this summer.

UEFA confirmed today that the Belfield outfit has earned an unlikely spot in the competition thanks to the Fair Play Award.

Ireland, Holland and England were all awarded extra spots.

“The three associations that are allocated an additional UEFA Europa League place will be entitled to enter the club that has won their domestic top-division fair play competition,” a statement reads.

“If this club has already qualified for a UEFA competition, the second-placed team in the domestic fair play competition may be entered and, should they also have already qualified, the third-placed side would be considered and so forth.”

UCD were relegated last season and currently fourth in the second tier.
