UCD, CORK IT and Limerick IT all booked Fitzgibbon Cup quarter-final places after today’s group stage action.
The second round of group games saw UCD and Cork IT both triumphed to ensure they both will qualify from Group A. The two colleges meet next Tuesday evening in Cork in a game that will determine who gets a home quarter-final placing.
Goals from Oisin O’Rorke and Colm Cronin were central to UCD’s win at Belfield. Manager Nicky English saw his lead narrowly by 0-7 to 0-6 at half-time before they got a second-half boost with those goals from Dublin duo O’Rorke, who hit 1-6 overall, and Cronin.

Laois player Ross King fired 0-5 for UCD while Waterford’s Donie Breathnach bagged 0-10 to DCU. Kevin O’Flynn hit DCU’s goal before the finish.

Cork’s Aidan Walsh grabbed a goal to helped CIT defeat St Pat’s in Drumcondra by 1-19 to 1-14. Last year’s quarter-finalists CIT trailed 1-10 to 1-6 at half-time before turning matters around in the second-half to clinch a place in the knockout stages.

Meanwhile in Group D, Davy Fitzgerald’s Limerick IT team booked their quarter-final place with a success over Dublin IT at Parnells GAA club. They added to last week’s win over Jordanstown to ensure they will finish top of that three-team group.
LIT ran out 1-18 to 1-13 winners with Galway’s Paul Killeen notching their goal. Michael Lee struck DIT’s goal while Wexford’s Jack Guiney hit 0-9 for them.
