BBC’S NEWS CHANNEL were discussing the nominees for this year’s Sports Personality of the Year award last night when Tyson Fury’s name came up.

The boxer, who became the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight champion of the world last weekend, has come in for some criticism for his remarks made about homosexuality in a recent newspaper interview.

During the discussion about a public petition aiming to take Fury off the shortlist, presenter Clive Myrie said: ”It’s past the watershed. You cannot be a dickhead and win Sports Personality of the Year.”
