TYRONE MADE IT a fourth successive McKenna Cup success after a 1-13 to 0-10 victory over Cavan at the Athletic Grounds.
A goal from Niall McKenna in the 56th minute proved the major turning point and provided the Red Hands with the momentum to see out the remainder of the game.
But, up to that point, they had been second best.
Cavan were in front after just 30 seconds through Niall McDermott’s point and enjoyed much the better of the opening period, with Martin Dunne slotting over a number of impressive scores. At one stage, the Breffni county kicked four unanswered points and were four clear at the break.
But, rather inevitably, Mickey Harte’s men rallied after the restart and substitute Darren McCurry’s two points ensured the sides were level. Then, McKenna found the net and there was no looking back for Ulster’s dominant team.
McCurry added two more points while Conal McCann also got his name on the score-sheet, finding his range deep into injury-time.
