Barcelona have long been admirers of Philippe Coutinho but the La Liga club have had a £72 million bid for the sought-after Liverpool ace rejected this week, according to The Guardian.
The 25-year-old already signed a new £150,000 a week contract with the Reds earlier last season and manager Jurgen Klopp has remained adamant that the player will not leave Anfield this summer.

Klopp said: “I’m not surprised that any club is interested in players at Liverpool. The very important message is that we are not a selling club and that’s how it is. We believe in working together and developing together.”
Elsewhere Arsenal will provide competition for the signature of Ross Barkley from Everton, alongside London rivals Tottenham.
The Evening Standard report that Arsene Wenger is monitoring the midfielder, who has just one year left on his current deal at Goodison Park.
He may have to fork out big for the 23-year-old however, with Everton valuing their player at £50 million.

Finally, while Manchester United are continuing to pursue Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, the Daily Mirror report that the club have failed to make a suitable offer for the Croatian winger.
The Serie A club are holding out for a £49 million offer for the 28-year-old, who is the main target of manager Jose Mourinho following the acquisitions of Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku.

The Dutch maestro said the reason he joined the Tyneside club was due to the incredibly positive reaction Barcelona received when playing Newcastle in a pre-season friendly.
The player had spent six years in Catalonia and would manage 13 goals in his debut season at St James’ Park under Sir Bobby Robson.
His first season would prove to be his last, however, as the player was released by Newcastle at the end of 2005.
Goals against Chelsea and Tottenham in the FA Cup are fondly remembered highlights, as well as five goals during the 2004/05 Uefa Cup where Newcastle made it to the competition’s quarter-finals.
