The Tour de France will start without a yellow jersey today

Despite heading the Tour de France following Tony Martin’s withdrawal, Chris Froome will not wear the yellow jersey.

CHRIS FROOME HAS announced he will not wear the yellow jersey for the seventh stage of the Tour de France in the absence of injured leader Tony Martin.

Etixx-Quick Step’s Martin was at the centre of a crash 800 metres from the line on Thursday and needed to be escorted away after the race as he looked to be holding an injured collarbone.

The injury — later confirmed to be a broken collarbone — requires surgery, ruling Martin out of the remainder of the Tour and, in effect, sending Team Sky’s Froome top of the general classification standings.

However, Martin ended stage six 12 seconds ahead of Froome and will still technically be the yellow jersey holder until he doesn’t start a stage

“For those asking, I won’t be wearing yellow today! All the best to @tonymartin85 with his op & recovery #MaillotJaune #TDF2015,” he tweeted.
