THERE HAVE BEEN plenty of pub debates between rugby fans about who would win in a European Champions v Super Rugby champions showdown, and it looks like we’re finally about to get our answer.
It’s been confirmed that triple European champions Toulon have agreed an exhibition game against the Super Rugby champions the Highlanders for next February.

The one-off exhibition will reportedly take place on Saturday February 6 in Hong Kong, which also happens to be the opening round of the 2016 Six Nations.
Toulon confirmed the news on their Twitter page this afternoon, after it had earlier been reported in French newspaper L’Equipe.
While Toulon will presumably be without the likes of Mathieu Bastareaud, Guilhem Guirado, Alexandre Menini, Xavier Chiocci, and Leigh Halfpenny, they will be able to draw on their vast Southern Hemisphere contingent, as well as their exiled northern hemisphere stars, including Paul O’Connell.
The Highlanders will be approaching the end of their pre-season campaign at that time, with the Super Rugby season commencing in mid-February.
Here’s hoping it’s the first of many games between European and Super Rugby champions to come.
