The fee agreed between the clubs is believed to be in the region of £10 million, considerably less than the £17 million Spurs paid for his services just two years ago.

The 26-year-old Brazilian international will undergo a medical later this week.

Paulinho, who moved to the Premier League from Corinthians, made just 15 appearances last season as he found himself down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.

Overall, he featured 45 times for Tottenham and scored six goals.

Former Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari is currently the manager at Guangzhou after taking over from Fabio Cannavaro last month.

They are presently sitting third in the Chinese league table having won the title each of the last four years.

Does the Brazil manager have a point when he says the Copa America is ‘worthless’?
