Tottenham agree 10-year deal with the NFL to host American football in London

At least two matches will be played at Spurs’ new stadium annually.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR WILL host at least two American football games a year at their new stadium after announcing a 10-year agreement with the NFL today.

Having purchased the final piece of land needed to press ahead with the move from White Hart Lane in April, the London-based Premier League club have begun work on a new 61,000-seater venue, which is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018.

It will feature a retractable pitch with an artificial surface underneath suitable for NFL matches.

“With growing enthusiasm for the NFL in the United Kingdom, we are committed to hosting NFL games in world-class venues and are excited to partner with Tottenham Hotspur to play games at their future stadium,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

We share a vision and commitment to creating the best experience for our teams, fans and the local community.”

In 2007, London’s Wembley Stadium began hosting the NFL International Series and it has proven a massive success with attendances averaging over 80,000 per game. There are three more scheduled for later this year and this deal does not rule out the possibility of future events at England’s international home.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy added: “We have an opportunity now to deliver one of the most unique sports, leisure and entertainment venues in the world, bringing together the EPL and NFL for the first time.”
