Watch: Fullback's brain fade hands Montpellier win in bizarre end to Top 14 game

La Rochelle’s Charles Bouldoire won’t be forgetting this rule again any time soon.

LA ROCHELLE FULLBACK Charles Bouldoire had a weekend to forget as his side slumped to a heartbreaking 12-11 defeat to Montpellier on Saturday.

Trailing 11-9, the hosts were awarded a 55m penalty in the 82nd minute but when Francois Steyn’s effort dropped short, and came back off the padding on the post, it looked like La Rochelle had secured victory.

But panic set in, and rather than grounding the ball or booting it out of play, Bouldoire instead threw the ball over the dead ball line, an action which is considered as ‘unfair play’.

After a lengthy consultation process with the TMO, referee Maxime Chalon awarded Montpellier a penalty on the 22, straight in front of goal, and replacement Ben Botica did the necessary to secure an unlikely victory for the home side, for whom Tomas O’Leary was an unused substitute.
