TONY ADAMS HAS claimed that Arsenal insulted Jack Wilshere by spending over £40 million to buy Mesut Ozil.
The Germany international signed for the Gunners from Real Madrid in September 2013, immediately becoming a first team player under Arsene Wenger. He has since played 114 Premier League games for the club as well as 29 European matches.

Having progressed through the youth ranks of the club, Wilshere had broken into the first team, but dropped out of favour following Ozil’s arrival, spending last season on loan at Bournemouth,
Adams believes that Wenger was wrong to spend so much on Ozil, claiming that the World Cup winner is no better than the 25-year-old Englishman.
“It was an insult to buy Mesut Ozil when we’ve got Jack Wilshere there, who is every bit as good,” Adams told Standard Sport.
“If I’d been Jack I’d have knocked on Arsene’s door and said ‘why the hell are you spending £40m on this player when I can do it just as well’.
“A lot of fans have questioned Ozil and his desire to win. When you’ve got a player and you’re giving them lots of money they have to contribute.”
Wilshere has been linked with a permanent move away from the Emirates with West Ham rumoured to be interested in the midfielder, while talk of Ozil’s exit has died down after Wenger extended his contract at the club for another two years.
