There was an unusual red card in Cavan v Roscommon

Tomás Corr was shown red … eventually.

ROSCOMMON BOOKED THEIR place in Round 3 of the qualifiers with a seven-point win over Cavan in Kingspan Breffni Park.

The visitors’ task was made a good deal easier when Cavan midfielder Tomás Corr was shown a red card in unusual circumstances before the second half began.

Corr was involved in a scuffle towards the end of the first half and struck Rossies forward Ultan Harney.

Referee David Gough took no action at the time but the incident was highlighted by The Sunday Game panel at half-time who suggested that the CCCC might hand down a retrospective punishment.

Realising that Corr was likely to be in trouble, Cavan boss Terry Hyland tried to make a substitution and replace him at the break.

But before the game restarted, one of Gough’s assistants drew his attention to the substitution and the fact that Corr was now sitting in the stand.

The referee motioned the player down from the stand and back onto the pitch…
