TIPPERARY’S HISTORIC WIN over Galway on Sunday propels them into the All-Ireland semi-final stage and it’s been quite a while since they faced a last four clash.

You’ve got to go back to 1935 for their last semi-final showdown when they collided with Cavan with brilliant footage of that game available courtesy of ‘British Pathé’.

Tipperary lost out 1-7 to 0-8 to the Breffni County in pretty dramatic fashion.

“In a last Cavan raid, Jim Smith shoots a goal,” was the commentator’s description of the match-winning score.

Since then Tipperary have appeared in two All-Ireland U21 semi-finals (2010 and 2015), along with five All-Ireland minor semi-final clashes (1955, 1984, 1995, 2011 and 2015).

But the senior game on 21 August against Tyrone or Mayo will be a momentous occasion.
