In pictures: The Defence Forces will have six soldiers in Sunday's All-Ireland final

Four Kilkenny men and two from Tipp are preparing for the Croke Park showpiece.

SPARE A THOUGHT for Tipp player Aidan McCormack, he’s got a lot riding on Sunday’s game.

Win, lose or draw, the Thurles Sarsfields man will return to work in enemy territory after the All-Ireland final — his first — against Kilkenny.

The 24-year-old made his championship debut earlier this year and is a Private for the Defence Forces out of Stephen’s Barracks, Kilkenny.

The 3rd Infantry Battalion at Stephen’s Barracks is also proud of its four Kilkenny hurlers — Private Colin Fennelly, Corporal Paul Murphy, Corporal Eoin Larkin and Private Richie Reid.

With Tipp star Patrick ‘Bonner’ Maher also a Private in Galway’s Renmore Barracks, the Defence Forces will be represented by a remarkable six hurlers in Sunday’s hurling showpiece at Croke Park.

And all six were happy to show their county colours at work this week.
