United teenager included as Netherlands name squad for Ireland friendly

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has only made nine senior appearances for the Premier League club.

TIMOTHY FOSU-MENSAH has received his first international call-up, with the Manchester United youngster named in a provisional Netherlands squad for their friendlies against the Republic of Ireland, Poland and Austria.

Dutch manager Danny Blind has included Mensah — who can play in defence and midfield — after just nine senior appearances for United. He made his debut against Arsenal back in February.

Mensah, who was born in Amsterdam, has already represented Netherlands at youth level but he also had the option to play for Ghana, where his parents were born.

Netherlands, who failed to qualify for Euro 2016, will play three friendlies in the space of nine days, starting with a visit to Dublin on 27 May.

Mensah is joined in the squad by United team-mates Daley Blind and Memphis Depay. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder and Robin van Persie were among the big names not included by Blind.
