Highly-rated Manchester United teen set to pen new long-term contract

Timothy Fosu-Mensah was given his debut by Louis van Gaal.

MANCHESTER UNITED LOST two young players earlier today as Paddy McNair and Donald Love both signed for Sunderland but there is some good news for another youthful squad member.

18-year-old Timothy Fosu-Mensah is expected to sign a four-year contract.

The defender was given his debut by Louis van Gaal last term, memorably coming on after 55 minutes in the 3-2 win over Arsenal and delivering an excellent performance.

He went on to make a further nine appearances for the club and with Matteo Darmian not having made United’s Community Shield squad, there are doubts about whether the Italian will remain at Old Trafford.

If he is moved on, it would seem likely that Fosu-Mensah would provide cover for Antonio Valencia at right-back.
