Another young player departs Old Trafford as highly-rated Fosu-Mensah set for Palace loan

The 19-year-old is a defender by trade but can also operate in midfield.

TIMOHY FOSU-MENSAH is set to join Crystal Palace on a year-long loan.

The 19-year-old Manchester United defender, who can also play in central midfield, made 11 appearances for the club last term having made his debut under Louis van Gaal during the 2015/2016 season.

The Dutchman is highly-rated and, having joined the club from Ajax as a 16-year-old, put pen to paper on a new deal last October that will keep him at the club until 2020.

A familiar face has brought him to Palace.

Former Ajax manager Frank de Boer is now in charge at Selhurst Park and pinpointed Fosu-Mensah as someone who could provide cover for regular full-back Joel Ward as well as increase competition in the middle of the park.

De Boer has already brought in defender Jairo Riedewald from his former employers and signed Chelsea’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek on a season-long deal too.
