Back spasms have forced Tiger Woods to withdraw from the next two PGA events

Woods only returned from a 16-month absence in December.

TIGER WOODS HAS withdrawn from the upcoming Genesis Open and Honda Classic due to ongoing back spasms.

Back troubles also forced Woods out of the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic last week, where he carded a birdie-free first-round 77 before his withdrawal.

The 14-time major champion only returned last December from a 16-month injury lay-off.

“My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down,” Woods said in a statement on his website.

“This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and The Honda Classic, my hometown event.

“I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week.”

The statement adds that Tiger’s “possible playing schedule after Honda will be determined at a later date after his back is reassessed.”
