THE WHOLE COUNTRY seemed to be watching Waterford man Thomas Barr’s Olympic 400m hurdles final in Rio yesterday.
He came agonisingly close to a medal by finishing in fourth place – and his family and friends watching on were class.

I'd love to reply to everyone individually but that would eat into valuable 'celebrating' time 🍻🍻. Cheers lads #imstillirishafterall— Thomas Barr (@TomBarr247) August 18, 2016

Maybe a medal was a step too far in my first Olympics, after the prep I've had! What is amazing to me is response I've gotten #thankyouevry1— Thomas Barr (@TomBarr247) August 18, 2016

But just as he was getting interviewed in the stadium after – his parents saw him for the first time since the race <3
And they absolutely leapt on him with pride
