ALL-IRELAND FINALISTS Dublin and Mayo dominate The Sunday Game’s football team of the year selection, following today’s memorable decider between the two counties at Croke Park.
Dublin clinched a third successive All-Ireland crown after seeing off Mayo by a single point at HQ, with Dean Rock landing the winning score deep into stoppage time.
Seven of Jim Gavin’s side are represented in the end-of-season selection, with The Sunday Game panel also announcing James McCarthy as their footballer of the year.
Mayo also have seven players in the team, with Kerry’s Paul Keaney the only representative from outside today’s two teams.

Andy moran footballer of the year surely? Got mayo through some seriously tough games.
@Leonard Lacey: Should Clare, Derry , Cork and Roscommon have been tough fames for Mayo?
@Leonard Lacey: oh Lenny
@Paul O’Donohoe: Hi Paul, that comment was not mine. Just another man blessed to be bestowed the same namesake.
Jason Doherty for Mannion/McLoughlin, the man was outstanding all year
Aidan O’Shea? joke
@Shimmy Shammy: you’re having a laugh! He’s been too class, even in first semi he was very good but media bias didn’t allow credit he deserved. From a Limerick supporter.
It time they moved the all stars to a Selection of 18/20 players taking in the entire season instead of trying to cram players into a 15 a side team sheet when the game is far and away from that now!!
Well that team is a load of bollox
@Ryan M: Why?
@Tom Reilly: barrett ahead of tiernan mccann and paul murphy is a joke, parsons ahead of fenton and even david moran is a joke, paul mannion ahead of dean rock is a joke, kevin mcloughlinn should not be on that team either
How did they leave out Ciaran kilkenny or Dean Rock? some of these guys are just plugging for their own i think!!.My team would be 1.Cluxton, 2.Fitzsimons,3.O Sullivan, 4.Higgins, 5.Keegan, 6.Boyle, 7.McCaffrey, 8.McCarthy,9.Parsons,10.Kilkenny, 11.O Shea,12.O Callaghan, 13.Manion, 14.Moran, 15.Rock. Noteable absentees David Clarke, Colm Cavanagh,Paul Geaney,Enda Smith,
@John Carroll: Kilkenny us the most over rated footballer in the country. Found out today.
Shimmy shimmy:Was closely marked by the best wing back in the Country but has been outstanding all year.Rock scored four from play and three frees def worth his place.
Really unfair on Colm Cavanagh
@Niall Campbell: you don’t get all stars/on team of the year when you get a hiding in the semi final.
@Lurfic: was easily Tyrone’s best player all year and, for me, the only Tyrone player that comes out of that semi with any dignity.
Cluxton, Harrison, O Sullivan, Barrett, McCann, Boyle, McCarthy, Cavanagh, Parsons, Paul Murphy, A O Shea, Con O C, Jamie Clarke, Andy Moran, Rock
@Mark Kearney: are you for real Westmeath would beat that team you picked
@Mark Kearney: your ma
Aidan o shea HOW?
Talk about having the blinkers on over the final. Mayo were awful all year. Lost to Galway and just got past Carlow and Cork, two teams who are on a much lower level. There is no way they deserve this many players on a “Team of the year”
@.:Mayo did not play Carlow and Cork with proper management are as good as the Tyrones, kerrys and even Mayo its you dot thats on a lower level.
That’s a savage in fairness.
8 players for Mayo 7 for Dublin joke
