CONOR McGREGOR HAD some heavyweight help this afternoon as he continues his preparations for his UFC featherweight title unification bout against Jose Aldo in Las Vegas on 12 December.

Game of Thrones star ‘The Mountain’ — real name Hafthór Júlíus Björnsson — paid a visit to Straight Blast Gym on the Naas Road, where McGregor was putting in the work along with Icelandic team-mate Gunnar Nelson.

In addition to his work as an actor, Björnsson is also a strongman competitor and former basketball player who stands at 6’9″ and weighs just shy of 420lbs.

“Had a good day today with these champs.”

This is one fight we wouldn’t fancy McGregor’s chances in, although the cut to featherweight (145lbs) might be too much of an ask for a fella who came third this year in the World’s Strongest Man competition.

“Absolute honor to have my Viking brother visit us training, a beast of a man!!” said Gunnar Nelson on Instagram.

Another injury setback could force this UFC fan favourite to retire at 27
