As reported earlier in the week, the home of Shamrock Rovers will be expanded from a 6,000 to 8,000 seater capacity stadium with the addition of a third stand.

The development work, which has been in the pipeline for some time, has finally been given the green light after a SDCC council meeting welcomed the construction of a new single tier 2,195 seater stand.

The work is expected to be complete in time for the 2018 League of Ireland season with the extra capacity and facilities meaning the stadium cmeets Uefa Category 4 standards.

Stadium manager Nicola Coffey welcomed the decision “as part of the long term strategy of the Council to maximise the use of Tallaght Stadium as a sporting, recreation and cultural venue for national and international events.”

SDCC has this afternoon released artist’s impression images of the new stand, with members of the public able to view the plans until 1 December in Tallaght Stadium and the council offices.
