This Brazilian blast from the past has just landed himself a management job

Claudio Taffarel will take interim charge of Galatasaray this weekend.

CLAUDIO TAFFAREL WILL take charge of the Galatasaray team this weekend after the Turkish giants sacked coach Hamza Hamzaoglu earlier today.

The former Gala skipper had only been in the job since last November.

A former Brazilian goalkeeper, Taffarel has been a part of the club’s backroom staff since 2011 and has already stepped into the position of interim coach prior to Hamzaoglu’s appointment, when Cesare Prandelli was relieved of his duties.

The 49-year-old also spent three years in Istanbul as a player, winning two league titles and a Uefa Cup.

An immensely-decorated goalkeeper, he won over 100 caps for his country, claiming the 1994 World Cup as well as two Copa America titles. He was also first-choice when Brazil lost to France in the 1998 World Cup decider.

At club level, he won the Coppa Italia twice across two spells with Parma, as well as a Cup Winners’ Cup though he’s probably best remembered for his time with Gala.
