IFK Gothenburg’s meeting with Malmo was abandoned after 78 minutes when a firework was thrown from the crowd and exploded under the feet of a substitute as he warmed-up.

Tobias Sana reacted angrily and walked towards the section of Gothenburg supporters, before ripping the corner flag out of the ground and firing it like a javelin towards the terrace.

The Swedish international was restrained by fellow players before being escorted down the tunnel by security personnel.

After discussions which lasted half an hour, the officials eventually decided to abandon the game as they were unable to guarantee the security of the players and fans inside the ground.

“I heard the banger, I looked over and saw Tobias Sana bend down. After that it went quickly, I blew the whistle and got the players in directly,” the referee said afterwards.
