Swansea pay reported €12.5 million for Spanish star, Leicester sign Sevilla captain

28-year-old midfielder Roque Mesa arrives from Las Palmas, while Vicente Iborra has joined the Foxes.

SPANISH MIDFIELDER ROQUE Mesa signed for Premier League side Swansea from Las Palmas for a reported £11million (€12.5m) today.

The 28-year-old — who spent seven years with Las Palmas and was pivotal in their return to the elite in 2015 — signed a four-year contract.

Las Palmas retained their place in the top flight last season finishing 14th with Mesa scoring once in 35 appearances.

“The midfielder has penned a four-year contract with the Swans after completing his medical this morning (Thursday),” read a statement on the club website.

He met his new team-mates at Fairwood (training ground) on Wednesday, while he will train for the first time on Monday after returning from Spain.”

Mesa’s arrival will offset the loss of South Korean international midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng, who is to miss the beginning of the Premier League season with a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Sevilla captain Vicente Iborra has concluded his move to Leicester City, signing a four-year contract with the Premier League club.

The clubs announced they had agreed a fee for the 29-year-old midfielder on Tuesday, reported to be in the region of £12.5million (€14m).

An imposing presence, Iborra joined Sevilla from Levante in 2013 and made 172 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 30 times and lifting the Europa League on three occasions.

He is Leicester’s second signing of pre-season following centre-back Harry Maguire’s arrival from Hull City.
