Bundesliga clubs reportedly interested in free agent Ireland

The former international is the subject of interest from Borussia Mönchengladbach according to a German publication.

FOLLOWING HIS RELEASE by Stoke earlier this summer, Stephen Ireland is being pursued by several Bundesliga clubs according to a report in Reviersport.

The German outlet claim Borussia Mönchengladbach are leading the race to accrue the services of the 31-year-old Cobh native, whose recent trial at Bolton Wanderers was hampered by injury.

Ireland made just 70 appearances for Stoke over four injury-ravaged years, finding the net on six occasions.

He missed the entire 2016–17 season with a broken leg but twice had his contract extended by six months last season. He was released following Stoke’s relegation to the Championship at the end of a campaign in which he made just five appearances.
