THINGS GOT UGLY early on in Game 1 of the NBA playoff series between the Golden State Warriors and the Houston Rockets as Stephen Curry and Patrick Beverley nearly came to blows.

After the two players got tangled up, Curry shoved Beverley, who appears to slap or shove Curry in the face at the same time. Both players were given technical fouls.

It is believed that one of the ways to stop or slow down Curry is to play him physically and Beverley is a physical defender and this play could set the tone for the entire series.

Nevertheless, the Warriors cruised to a 104-78 win over the Rockets at Oracle Arena.

But  Curry looks set to sit out the second game; he hurt his ankle and missed most of the second half.

Curry had managed 24 points in just under 20 minutes to help the Warriors to their win.

The Atlanta Hawks held off the Boston Celtics for a 102-101 victory at Philips Arena.

Double-doubles from Al Horford (24 points and 12 rebounds) and Jeff Teague (23 points and 12 assists) were key for the Hawks.

Russell Westbrook had 24 points and 11 assists in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 108-70 thrashing of the Dallas Mavericks.
