Austin Stacks took the first step in defending their Kerry football crown today

The Kerry senior football championship is up and running.

Austin Stacks 1-13

St Michael’s Foilmore 2-6

DAVID MANNIX SCORED six points as Austin Stacks opened the defence of their Kerry senior football title with a four-point win over St Michael’s Foilmore.

Shane O’Callaghan’s goal in the eighth minute put Stacks into an early 1-2 to 0-2 lead at Austin Stack Park.

But Bernard Kelly and Sean Fogarty both raised green flags for Michael’s to leave just a point between the sides at the break, 1-7 to 2-3.

Points from Pa McCarthy and Mannix stretched Stacks’ lead after the restart and a staunch defensive effort limited Michael’s to just three points in the second half.
