Furlong now has ten for the season.

A Wexford Youths striker is taking the First Division by storm this season

There’s no stopping Danny Furlong as he bagged another brace tonight.

WEXFORD YOUTHS ARE on the march as they recorded their sixth win in nine SSE Airtricity League First Division games this evening and one man is spearheading their charge.

Former Cork City striker Danny Furlong has been taking the league by storm this season and tonight scored twice as Wexford beat Waterford United 4-1 at the RSC.

Furlong has now scored ten goals this term, including five against Cabinteely last time out. It’s little surprise the 25-year-old is leading the goalscoring charts as Wexford closed the gap on Finn Harps to three points.

Harps dropped two points at Cabinteely as they conceded a late goal to draw 1-1 after Ruairi Keating had given Ollie Horgan’s side an early lead.

UCD, meanwhile, reignited their promotion push with a 2-0 win at Tolka Park as Shelbourne’s indifferent form continued. Two goals inside the opening 20 minutes set the Students on their way and despite a first-half red card for Gary O’Neil, the visitors emerged with the points.

Cobh Ramblers face Athlone Town on Saturday at 7.45pm.

Tonight’s First Division results:

  • Cabinteely 1-1 Finn Harps
  • Waterford United 1-4 Wexford Youths
  • Shelbourne 0-2 UCD
