YESTERDAY, SPORTS EDITOR of the Limerick Post, Donn O’Sullivan, tweeted this:
Which got us thinking that, yes, there absolutely should be.
Well, it seems, one might be closer than any of us thought with the US based SportsBuddy launching this glitzy video for their new app which aims to pair match people of similar sporting ability.
However, this does appear to be an app specifically designed for meeting singles with Jordan Silva Mishkin, the company’s director of business development, telling Entrepreneur:
“We create matches with a meaning. I think it’s inevitable that people will use SportsBuddy as a way to meet other singles, but hopefully this way you’ll match with someone that you have something in common with and that will lead to a stronger human connection.”
Surely then there’s still scope for an app for the rest of us who just want to play ball?
Would you use one?
Me, I won the league with Ipswich back in Championship Manager 98/99!!!
Brian Kerr?
Stan is yer only man
That list makes for sad reading. David O’Leary? Are you having a laugh? So many of them are non entities. I’ve said it once and will say it again Rene Meulensteen is there and I think would be a great move. Wouldn’t cost a fortune and has a heap of experience at United and most importantly is a product of the Dutch system. Don’t tie him to a really long term deal and take a risk. It can’t get any worse than is and could be a huge success. I’d love to see the FAI proactively look beyond the end of their noses and the usual candidates.
Good suggestion
The bloke who managed Greece to the ’04 Euros. Got the best out of average players. We might even get another translator.
Absolutely love the Harry Redknapp duggestion. Personal favourite would be Jurgen Klinsmann- the style of football he buys in to would suit Ireland as it is high energy, up tempo in your face football.
Jürgen Klinsmann good call, legend
Think he prefers California and the US job to be honest.
I’d say o Neill will be offered it and if he wants it, it’s his
Hopefully not.
Agreed
Mick o Dwyer,
Rene Meulensteen?
Someone talking sense
The only two logical candidates here are O Neill and Keane . O Neill would probably do a good job for the short term but for long term and development Keane is a better option. He knows what’s wrong at grass roots football in this country and at the FAI which is why he probably won’t get it…
Keane has a proven record of being unable to get along with more or less anybody that he has worked with. He turned around Sunderland in his first season after being given a budget denied to his predecessor and after that it was all downhill. At both Sunderland and Ipswich he left behind vastly over sized, overpaid, underachieving squads. He has absolutely no idea about the structure of football in Ireland having been out Irish football since he left Cobh Ramblers all those years ago. The ability that he has to clash with authority is only second to his ability to walk when he does not get his own way. One of the most important aspects of management the ability to establish strong relationships with those to whom you report as well as those who report to you. The combative nature of Roy’s personality is such that for him to do so over a sustained period would be impossible.
Roy Keane was a fantastic footballer, but that seems to be about the only positive. It is beyond me how anybody could logically see him as a candidate unless it was going to be a reality TV show………… Although come to think of it that might be worth millions to the FAI.
Martin o neill is not known for a free-flowing passing style so he is not the one for me
The Mick McCarthy gif has me sold
Souness me hoop
What about Mike Phelan? out of work so no compensation, has worked with Fergie so must have learned a thing or two. And though less important has Irish connections but an added factor.
All ill say is Bring back STAN !!!
: ) : )
Terry Venables worth a punt.He was in the running to get it before Mr Dunphy stuck his oar in.In an interview El Tel all but confirmed he was going to take the job until Dunphy stepped into the breach.Venables would be a fantastic manager.Great man manager and no better man to raise the spirits of everyone connected with Irish football.Ask any of the players that have worked under him and they will say that Venables is a very clever coach, very good tactically and talks a good game.I would love to see him at the helm! That’s just my opinion
I wonder if Champions League winning coach Jupp Heynckes fancies a go at International management
Martin O’Neill appears to be the clear favourite but international management is very different from day to day involvement with players at a club. Any appointment of a manager without international experience will be something of a gamble. We have a relatively shallow pool of players to choose from so it will be vital to have a manager who can make the most of relatively meagre resources without access to the transfer market.
Someone with a proven international track record would be the ideal candidate ……………………..so step forward Mick McCarthy !
And what you think Mick is going to come back ! Behave yourself John .
Keane whether you like him or not he played LOI , he played for Ireland at junior and senior levels , he captained his country , he has experience all the thing that are wright and wrong in Irish football including the FAI . Grant you his club management has not been great but club and international management are totally different , look at Mark Hughes done a good job in the short time he was with Wales but then the clubs came calling he has been poor and hasn’t cut the grade really . Which is why I think Keane is more suitable to international management
I think that McCarthy is the most qualified of the candidates listed for the reasons that I have stated but I think that it would be difficult to persuade him to leave Ipswich for the Irish job. I am certain that Keane is possibly the least suited for reasons stated in another post.
You seem to think that role of senior international team manager encompasses a lot more than just managing the senior international team. In this you are sadly ill informed. If you want someone to be the FAI’s CEO and manager as you seem to suggest I doubt you could find anyone with the skill set or time to do both jobs simultaneously.
Time John ??? Plenty of time to scout new players and report to the FAI about the structure at underage levels when there’s no internationals . The new manage will have not have a competitive game that means nothing for at least a year now .. If he’s paid 1.2 million plus like trap was I don’t think it’s to much to ask to put in the time off season or when there’s no matches coming up or would you just prefer to pay a guy just to turn up a day before the games and then feck off again till the next one ?
I think Tony Pulis is the man for the job
Tony Pulis will make the team worse, not better. His style is way too defensive and signing him would be taking a step backwards
Defo Tony pulis hes the man exciting football from defence out.. Great shout stephen
I think so, great record as a manger and he always wears a hat, didn’t he stick the head on James Beattie in the shower after a game,so you know he doesn’t take any messing.
So Whelan still gets a game, for that reason alone he should get nowhere near it
If poking his head out of the car window on transfer deadline day aint in the package, Harry aint touchin this one
Well your opinion is wrong and you should be ashamed of it
Niall quinn made a great point today on the last word with matt cooper,we need to look 5-10 years down the line not just to scrap through the next euro qualifiers,we need a benefactor to help set up an irish football academy to develop better footballers capable of making it at the Top english clubs because at this moment we dont have these players and we need a manager with the foresight to help nurture and develop this project and the man he tipped to do it was….. Louis van Gaal
The job is surely O’Neill’s to refuse. No compensation payment to a current employer, as well as positive reaction from all the Celtic fans in Ireland – a dream candidate for the FAI from a public relations and ticket sale point of view, and that’s all that matters for them. I think most fans would prefer Hughton but that’s unlikely for the moment.
The surprise in this race might be David O’Leary! Italia ’90 hero and media-friendly, has managerial experience but also unemployed a while so FAI could drive a hard bargain wage-wise.
What about Pat Fenelon??
