Southampton sack Claude Puel after just one season in charge

The Saints boss has been relieved of his duties just a year into a three-year deal with the Premier League club.

SOUTHAMPTON HAVE CONFIRMED that Claude Puel has been sacked as manager after just one season at the helm.

The former Lyon boss took the club to eighth in the Premier League in 2016-17 and guided the side to the EFL Cup final. But Southampton decided on Wednesday that his tenure would come to an end.

A statement from the club reads: “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that it has terminated the contract of Claude Puel with immediate effect.

“Everyone at Southampton would like to express our thanks to Claude for his hard work and commitment this year. The highlight of the season was a memorable day at Wembley in the EFL Cup Final, a day our fans will always treasure. We wish Claude well for the future.

“The search for a new management team is underway. We are confident that we will find the right fit in line with the long term vision of the club.”

Puel was on a three-year deal, while his replacement will be Southampton’s fourth manager in just over three years.
