Better call Sol? Ex-Arsenal defender set for career change

The no-nonsense defender has hinted at a move into politics as a Conservative candidate.

FORMER ENGLAND AND Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has hinted that he could be interested in a career in politics.

The 40-year-old, who won two Premier League titles and three FA Cups with the Gunners, has been touted as a possible Conservative candidate for the London seat vacated by Sir Malcom Rifkind and reportedly had lunch with the party chairman Grant Shapps.

When asked if he was planning to stand at the general election during an interview on Sky News, Campbell replied: ”Step by step. I think about a lot of things.”

“It’s about going in there and getting the facts and figures and making sure the British people know what’s happening,” he added on David Cameron’s plans to hold a referendum on the UK’s membership in the European Union.

“I look at the eurozone and I look at Germany – the only reason that Germany loves the euro is because they make so much money, because the mark was so expensive.”
