Skrtel given 3-game ban for De Gea stamp

The Liverpool defender had contested the charge.

LIVERPOOL’S MARTIN SKRTEL will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after being found guilty of violent conduct.

Earlier this week Skrtel decided to contest the charge which relates to an incident with David De Gea in the 95th minute of Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.

However, an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today found the defender guilty of a stamp on the Spanish goalkeeper.

Minutes after the FA announced their decision, Skrtel posted this to his Instagram account:

When questioned by Sky Sports about the incident immediately after the match, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers replied: “The ball was played through but it probably looks worse in slow motion.

“It looks like he is trying to get a nick on the ball, to get a toe on it the ball went into the goalkeeper’s hands. Martin is not that type of player, he was just a fraction out.”
