Six arrests made after fan trouble around Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers game

The Bit O’Red have released a short statement saying it will not tolerate such behaviour at The Showgrounds.

SIX PEOPLE WERE arrested after last Saturday’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game between Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers.

The Hoops were 2-0 winners in their opening league fixture of the season thanks to goals from Brandon Miele and Danny North, but the evening was marred by violence from a small number of visiting supporters before and during the match.

In a short statement, the Bit O’Red confirmed that four supporters were charged and added that similar behaviour will not be tolerated by the club in the future.

“Sligo Rovers can confirm there were six arrests relating to incidents involving the away fans before and during the game at The Showgrounds on Saturday night,” it reads.

“Charges have been brought against four of those involved.

As a club we do not tolerate this type of behaviour, which thankfully was an isolated incident involving a very small minority.

“Sligo Rovers along with the Garda will not accept any repeat of this type of behaviour at any future games in The Showgrounds and anyone found attempting to do so will be subject to the full rigours of the law.”
