Shane Lowry is well-placed after a decent opening as the PGA heads to Phoenix

The Offaly native managed four birdies for a share of 17th place.

SHANE LOWRY CARDED an opening round of 69 to finish on -2 for his opening round at the Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.

He’s four shots off early leader Hideki Matsuyama, who loves this tournament. He emerged victorious last year after a play-off with Rickie Fowler while he finished as runner-up in 2015.

After a bogey at 1, Lowry blitzed the remainder of the front nine and managed three birdies before he added another at 10. But there was another bogey at 18, which ensured a share of 17th place alongside the likes of Bubba Watson and Phil Mickelson.

Padraig Harrington is also in action and got underway a short time ago.
