SHANE LONG WON Goal of the Season at Southampton’s annual awards tonight for his stunning recent strike against Aston Villa (see above).

The Ireland international has had a somewhat difficult time adjusting to life at St Marys, appearing more often from the bench than in the starting line-up since his £12million move last summer.

However, the Tipperary native impressed in the club’s recent 6-1 win over Aston Villa, providing him with a welcome confidence boost ahead of Ireland’s vital Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland in June.
