Shane Dooley helps himself to 1-14 as Offaly claim opening Division 1B win over Laois

The Faithful had four points to spare in Portlaoise tonight.

SHANE DOOLEY WEIGHED in with 1-14 to propel Offaly to victory over Laois in a high-scoring Allianz Division 1B hurling league opener in O’Moore Park tonight.

Dooley bagged the only goal of the game early in the second-half and that proved the crucial score on the night as Brian Whelehan’s side bagged some priceless early league points.

Offaly were ahead 0-14 to 0-11 at the interval before Dooley raised the green flag. Laois missed two second-half penalties when Zane Keenan was foiled and they couldn’t overhaul their opponents.

Laois finished up with 14 men after Tom Delaney was sent-off in the second-half but they did bag plenty scores with Keenan’s accurate freetaking seeing him land 0-10 while Charlie Dwyer bagged 0-6 and Willie Hyland shot 0-3.

Dooley’s total of 1-14 came courtesy of 1-10 from placed balls while Shane Kinsella (0-3), Paddy Murphy (0-2) and Sean Ryan (0-2) were all on target for the Faithful as well.
