SHANE CURRAN THINKS that John Evans has reached the end of the line with Roscommon following the county’s defeat to Sligo in the Connacht championship on Saturday evening.
The outspoken former Roscommon goalkeeper was highly critical of the Kerry native, and says that Evans knows how to talk a good game but doesn’t deliver when it comes to championship.
“I don’t know has John Evans reached the end of the line really in where he can bring this team. There is a group of players coming through without a doubt,” he said when speaking on RTÉ Radio 1 last night.

“Is John Evans the man to bring them forward? I don’t think after yesterday’s display that he is.”
“In John’s case, there’s no doubt he’s confident at talking himself up, but is he a good coach, a good manager? I would say that he’s not,” Curran said.
Curran believes that the management team got plenty of tactical decisions wrong against Sligo, and says that he couldn’t figure out what way Evans was trying to set his team up.
“It went wrong before it even started. Everything that Sligo were, we weren’t. We were completely disorganised, we weren’t in-tune for the game and we looked lethargic.”
“From a tactical point of view I think a lot of people were baffled by the movement of players right before the game. Stephen Hawking wouldn’t work out the manoeuvres that the Roscommon management did prior to throw-in.”

Despite John Evans guiding Roscommon from division three of the national league to division one in the space of two years, Curran thinks there is no structure to their football and that the county side has gone backwards.
“He’s had to bring in Liam Kearns over the last 12 months. We did think there was a structure coming into Roscommon football over the league.
“But it’s gone backwards based on yesterday’s performance. It seems that kicking a football in Roscommon, in a championship match, is nearly a crime.”
